Four arrested for DWI

MARSHALL – The Marshall Police Department arrested four persons for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) over the weekend, serving as a reminder that impaired driving continues to pose a serious threat to everyone on our roadways.

Charged for Driving While Intoxicated from Friday through Sunday were: Kenyatta Domino, 38, of Carthage; Madison LaDuke, 25, of Marshall; Christopher Harris, 56, of Marshall and Garrett Smith, 20, of Longview, DWI.

Every impaired driver represents a preventable danger to families, passengers, and other motorists. Alcohol-impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of traffic fatalities in the United States, despite decades of public education and enforcement efforts.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 32 people die every day in the United States in alcohol-impaired driving crashes—about one person every 44 minutes. In 2024, 11,904 people lost their lives in crashes involving drunk drivers with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. These deaths were entirely preventable.

Alcohol-impaired drivers are involved in approximately 30 percent of all traffic crash fatalities nationwide. On average, more than 11,500 people have died each year in drunk-driving crashes over the past decade (2015–2024).

“Every DWI arrest represents a potentially tragic situation that was prevented before someone was seriously injured or killed,” said Marshall Police Chief Cliff Carruth. “Our officers will continue to aggressively enforce DWI laws, but preventing these tragedies starts with personal responsibility. If you plan to drink, make a plan to get home safely without driving.”
