Softball champs get their own daySMITH COUNTY – The Smith County Commissioners Court adopted a resolution proclaiming Tuesday, June 23, as “Bullard High School Softball Day” to honor the state champions.
On May 29, the girls won the UIL 4A Division 1 State Championship – the first ever in program history.

Coach Julie Murry was named Texas Girls Coaches Association Coach of the Year. Coach Murry said she was grateful and proud to be able to represent their school and their community.

“We did make history this year in terms of winning a state championship for our school,” she said.

Bullard pitcher Brooklyn Brannen’s performance on the mound and behind the plate earned her the championship game’s Most Valuable Player Award. She and five teammates were named to the State All-Tournament Team. They are Lila Robertson, catcher; Emery Baker, 3rd base; Kirstin Malone, shortstop; and Kenzi Roberts, outfielder.

After winning their seventh undefeated district championship in a row, the Bullard Panthers entered the playoff season. Bullard swept each of its five opponents by winning two games and not forcing a game three in either showdown. The team took down Prosper Richland 3-0 to secure the championship.

Coach Murry, along with Assistant Coaches Brett Murry, Danielle Hudspeth and Callie Bailey led the team to an overall season record of 37-7-1.
