LONGVIEW – As Longview ISD continues construction on its new multi-purpose facility, the district is considering naming it after one of their most accomplished alumni Trent Williams. Before making the decision to name the facility after Williams, the district is currently seeking public input and asking community members to submit their feedback through an online survey.
Williams graduated from Longview High School in 2006 and has since gone on to have a successful career in the NFL. After being drafted by the Washington Commanders in 2010, Williams spent nearly 10 years with the organization and is now with the San Francisco 49ers and will enter his 16th year in the league this fall.
Through his NFL career, Williams has remained a constant in the Longview community as he has helped fund significant improvements to the football team’s locker room and also launched his annual Silverback Free Football Camp that will be returning to Longview this weekend.
Along with helping Longview ISD’s athletic program and providing mentorship to young athletes, Williams has also s supported recurring efforts to provide Christmas gifts, toys and bikes to children and families in need across Gregg County since 2015.
Longview Head Football Coach John King recently spoke about the impact Williams has made in the community since graduating two decades ago.
“What people need to understand is that Trent did not just leave Longview and become great,” King said. “He kept Longview with him and has poured back into this program, this school and this community in ways people see, and in some ways they may never fully know.”
The district said that public feedback will be accepted until June 22, and afterward, a committee will prepare a recommendation to be considered by the Longview ISD Board of Trustees at the July 27 regular meeting.
