Waskom tabs finalist for superintendent WASKOM – The Waskom ISD Board of Trustees has named East Texas Native Lindsey Wood the finalist in the race for Superintendent following the unexpected death of previous superintendent, Christopher Guastella, in March.

According to our news partner KETK, Wood currently acts as the superintendent of academic services at Ferris ISD and has 19 years of experience in public education and 12 years in school administration.

The board conducted an extensive search focused on finding a leader who identifies with the district’s vision, values and commitment to student success.

“We are excited about the leadership, experience, and vision that Lindsey Wood would bring to Waskom ISD,” said Danny Cox, President of the Waskom ISD Board of Trustees. “Lindsey Wood stood out as a leader who understands that strong schools are built through high expectations, meaningful relationships, and a relentless focus on student success. We believe her experience and leadership style are an excellent fit for the future of Waskom ISD.”

In accordance with Texas law, the Board of Trustees may take action to officially hire the superintendent after the required 21-day waiting period. The Board is expected to consider the appointment during a meeting scheduled for June 18, 2026.
