Drug deal results in arrests

SMITH COUNTY – On Thursday, May 21, at approximately 10:15 am, Smith County Deputies responded to a reported Deadly Conduct incident that occurred at County Road 46, Old Harmony Road near Tyler. When Deputies contacted the victim, she reported that two suspects, both residents of the location, had assaulted and robbed her. They also were told that the incident took place on the previous evening and continued into the morning. At this time, Patrol personnel notified the Criminal Investigations Division (CID).
The victim was taken to the downtown office to be interviewed. During the interview, the victim stated that sometime during the preceding evening , she was approached outside the residence by the suspects, who demanded money to purchase narcotics. When she refused, one of the suspects allegedly grabbed her and cut her arm with a knife. The victim was able to escape, retreat into the residence, secure herself inside her bedroom, and remain there for the remainder of the night.
The victim further stated that on the morning of May 21, one of the suspects entered her room and again demanded money. The suspect then demanded the keys to her vehicle, believing money was located inside. During the altercation, the suspect forcibly removed the keys from the victim’s hands, causing injury. The suspect unlocked the vehicle and removed an undisclosed amount of cash. When the victim attempted to retrieve the keys from the truck, the suspect attempted to run over her with the vehicle multiple times. During the incident, the second suspect was reportedly yelling, “Kill her.” Both suspects then fled the scene in the truck.
A search warrant was then executed at the residence with the assistance of the Smith County SWAT team. During this time, one suspect was located at the scene and was identified as 27-year-old Oscar Flores . He was immediately taken into custody without incident. Investigators later determined that the second suspect was at a residence within the city limits of Tyler. Investigators and Deputies responded to a home located near Augusta Avenue and West Bryan Street, where they located the suspect identified as 36-year-old Scott Mauricio Alfonso-Cambroni . Alfonso-Cambroni was taken into custody without incident.
Both Oscar Flores and Scott Alfonso-Cambroni were found to be illegal immigrants, and Federal Detainers were placed on both. Additionally, it was discovered that Alfonso-Cambroni had been deported in 2019 after being arrested for a separate Aggravated Assault.
The investigation is continuing, and additional information may be released as it becomes available.
