BULLARD – The State of Texas is conducting its second review of the Bluebonnet Point Wellness facility in Bullard after allegations of neglect of an elderly patient who recently died.
According to our news partner, 81-year-old Robert Percharich, died on Sunday under the care of Bluebonnet Point Wellness in Bullard. His son Matthew is now seeking answers about how he said his father was treated.
“If they had enough staff, would my dad still be alive?” son of Robert Percharich, Matthew said.
“The whole plan was for him to come out and come home, get him back up to as just a baseline as possible,” Percharich said.
Robert has lived with vascular dementia for six years and was under the care of his family. He was admitted to Bluebonnet Point Wellness in early April after a major injury. After Robert’s death, Matthew said he was still haunted by the conditions his father lived in during his final days.
Matthew said on numerous occasions he found his father in a bed without blankets, freezing cold and without proper dressings.
“I smelled it before him, before he even went in the room. There’s not a record of that in the notes,” Percharich said.
Robert said he is concerned about the lack of staffing at the facility, which led to his rapid decline.
“They know they’re short-staffed, yet you’re still taking on a workload that their staff can’t support things like this,” Percharich said.
Matthew is calling for a full investigation, not only into how his father died, but also into their allegations of neglect. He plans on requesting an independent investigation of their own.
“My goal is to prove that they are short-staffed. They know they’re short-staffed, and they’re still taking on patients that need a level of attention like my dad,” Percharich said.
KETK News reached out to Bluebonnet Point Wellness about these accusations.
“We are aware of the concerns that have been shared publicly regarding a former resident at our facility, and we want to address them directly. The safety, dignity, and well-being of every resident entrusted to our care is our highest priority. All allegations in our facility are taken extremely seriously. We have been in ongoing communication with the resident’s family and remain available to them. We recognize the deep loss they are experiencing, and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability, we proactively requested that the state conduct a review of the facility. That review has been completed, and the concerns raised were determined to be unsubstantiated.
Following recent public attention, we have asked the state to return for an additional review as part of that continued commitment to transparency. This review is currently underway and was requested as an added precaution to ensure a thorough evaluation of our care and operations.
We understand that reports like these can be concerning for families and the community. We want to reassure those we serve that we remain focused on providing attentive, compassionate care in a safe and supportive environment, and we will continue to fully cooperate with all regulatory authorities,” said Area Director of Operations, Jordan Golden said.
