City disaster declaration declaredMARSHALL – Due to a 24-inch water main break Tuesday morning in the area of High and Spring Street in Marshall. Many areas across the city are are experiencing low water pressure while others are without water. This break is being described as a major transmission line. The City of Marshall has been declared a local state of disaster. The formal declaration allows access to assistance from other state and local agencies, according to Emergency Management officials. In the declaration signed by Marshall Mayor Amy Ware says “extraordinary measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and protect and rehabilitate property.”

KTBB reached out to Marshall City Hall. We were able to get this information from them.

“Unfortunately our offices at city hall are forced to close. until further notice due to the main water break. We are working with our teams to quickly get the issue fixed. for Marshall, Texas residents, you can expect low water pressure as well as complete water loss in some areas. Please conserve water to the best of your ability.”

The City has also activated its Emergency Operations Center, which is a coordinated, centralized response involving city staff to support incident management. Fire Chief David Rainwater serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator.

As of Tuesday morning, many area businesses across the city have announced closures. City and county offices are closed. The Marshall Independent School District has cancelled classes. While repair work gets underway, residents and businesses are asked to voluntarily conserve water during this time to help reduce strain on the utility operations system.
