Rep. Moran speaks on Iran strikesTYLER – East Texas lawmakers are chiming in as tensions escalate in Iran following Saturday’s unprecedented attacks by United States forces. Congressman Nathaniel Moran fully throws his support behind President Donald Trump following this weekend’s missile strikes against Iran, which killed their supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and 40 of their top officials. It became a huge blow to the nation and marks a shift in power since the regime took over in the late 1970s.

“This is a national security interest matter for the United States long term,” Moran said.

As tensions rise overseas, the congressman’s attention turns to our troops’ safety and the safety of residents on U.S. soil.

“The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) appropriations is a big issue now, more than it was a couple of weeks ago,” Moran said. “When homeland security is heightened, that level of security is necessary.”

Moran references the current lockdown for DHS funding, primarily surrounding Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, but is now having a ripple effect on a broader scale.

Not even a day following the strikes in Iran, a fatal shooting at a south Austin bar has U.S. residents raising their eyebrows and fearing for what could come next.

“This is the one portion of the government that is not funded presently, because the Democrats have held it up in the Senate, “ Moran said. “Are you really going to vote against appropriations?”

Congressman Moran believes the Austin shooting will lead lawmakers back to the drawing board this week and get a vote done in the House to secure funding for DHS, in hopes of preventing any potential terror attacks on our own soil.

He tells KETK News there is a real concern in the U.S. for those potential lash outs, but East Texans should not live in fear, rather be mindful of what’s happening around them.

“Our folks don’t need to be fearful of that,” Moran said. “What they do need to be is prudent and wise about the things they do, the choices they make, about where they’re going and how they’re going about their lives.”
