TYLER – Kidd and Downing get upgradesThe city of Tyler reports that progress continues on the City of Tyler’s 2025 Structure Flooding Project, with design and pre-construction work underway for drainage improvements on Kidd Drive and Downing Street. On Wednesday, Jan. 28, the City Council awarded a $587,169.20 construction contract to W.M. Miller Construction Company, Inc. for improvements on Downing Street and Kidd Drive. This phase of the project will deliver long-term flood relief for residents and address aging stormwater infrastructure in the area.

To improve drainage and reduce flood risk:

Downing Street will receive two new curb inlets, and one existing inlet will be enlarged to increase capacity.

Kidd Drive will see two aging brick curb inlets removed and replaced with new, higher-capacity models. Two additional inlets will also be installed. All four inlets will connect to a new junction box at the existing stormwater infrastructure along Shiloh Road.

New yard drains will be added in areas most susceptible to flooding, helping redirect stormwater away from homes and property.

The Kidd Drive and Downing Street upgrades were added to the 2025 Structure Flooding Project in August 2025. For more information, visit 2025 Structure Flooding Project | My Tyler, Texas.

These improvements will be funded through the Half Cent Sales Tax Fund.
