Anderson County Man Sentenced for Drug Trafficking Violations

TYLER — A 37-year-old Palestine, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug trafficking in the east Texas. Derrick Deon Hicks pleaded guilty on June 27, 2011, to possession with intent to distribute and distribution of crack cocaine. He was sentenced yesterday to 180 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Leonard E. Davis. Hicks was also ordered to submit to forfeiture of firearms, a car, and a $50,000.00 judgment.
According to federal prosecutors, up until August 2010, Hicks conspired with others to distribute more than 280 grams of crack cocaine throughout the East Texas area. Hicks was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 2, and charged with federal drug trafficking violations.
