WASHINGTON — The United States has apprehended Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife in a swift military operation early Saturday morning. President Donald Trump has announced that the U.S. will oversee the Latin American nation until a transition occurs, that according to our news partner KETK. During this interim period, the U.S. will also take charge of Venezuela’s oil production.
Trump stated that some of the largest American oil companies will invest billions of dollars to repair “the badly broken infrastructure” and generate revenue for the country. This development follows months of escalating tensions between the two nations, along with U.S. officials’ threats against Maduro, who has been accused of leading a drug cartel and labeled an “illegitimate leader.”
Since the early morning attack, numerous representatives from East Texas have expressed their opinions on the situation.
U.S. Representative Nathaniel Moran
“Last night, President Trump took decisive and targeted action against the unelected dictator of Venezuela— Nicolás Maduro—who has openly worked with drug lords in the Western Hemisphere for years to traffic drugs into the U.S. and is, no doubt, responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Americans.
This is reminiscent of the strength President George H.W. Bush showed in late 1989, when he used U.S. military forces to enter Panama and bring Manuel Noriega back to the United States to face justice for his leading role in drug trafficking.
This should serve as a reminder to the world that the strength of the United States has not waned and should not be tested by totalitarian regimes that wish to do harm to the U.S. Xi and Putin should take notice that their criminal allies cannot be protected.
Despite my support for this result last night, if United States military forces remain in Venezuela to conduct military operations, I strongly urge POTUS to work with Congress to pass an authorization for use of military force pursuant to the War Powers Resolution of 1973, consistent with the authority granted to the legislative branch under Article I of the U.S. Constitution.”
State Representative Cody Harris
“Rugged individualism obliterated ‘warm collectivism’ while we were sleeping. The capture of terrorist Nicolás Maduro sends a powerful message: America will not tolerate drug trafficking, oil theft, election fraud, or defiance from criminal regimes.
Proud of our elite special operators who carried out this mission in Venezuela with precision and courage. This is strength. This is resolve. This is America First.”
State Representative Cole Hefner
“Nothing about the Venezuela strike should be overlooked, including the timing. Shortly after Maduro met with his Chinese friends, President Donald Trump acted. The timing says everything. Venezuela’s narcoterrorist dictator spent years trafficking drugs, stealing oil, rigging elections, and propping up a brutal regime — until consequences arrived. This operation sent a clear message not only to Maduro and his supporters but to the Chinese Communist Party: America is watching, and under President Trump, weakness is no longer U.S. policy. Nicolás Maduro found out the hard way. America First!”
