Council to Hire Alto Police Chief

Posted/updated on: December 6, 2011 at 10:59 am

ALTO — City council members will spend the week interviewing potential candidates selected in a Friday meeting for the position of Alto Police Chief. They have identified several candidates they will interview for the position, Mayor Monty Collins said. Collins said he didn’t remember exactly how many candidates they will be interviewing, “but we whittled them down,” he said.

In the meeting, council members waded through approximately 40 applications filed for the position submitted by hopefuls from everywhere, Councilman Jerry Flowers said. After making a hire, which is slated to occur in a meeting on Thursday, the city will hand over the process of hiring another officer to the new chief. Flowers said the city has a separate stack of applications filed for an officer’s position, and the process for hiring will not begin until the new chief is in place.
