Local district judge running for re-election

SMITH COUNTY – Debby Gunter, a Smith County judge in the 241st District Court, has declared her intention to run for reelection in 2026. Gunter is seeking re-election in the Republican Primary on March 3. He was first elected as a judge of the court in 2023.

Gunter stated to our news partner KETK that she’s running for re-election because the people of Smith County deserve a court system that operates effectively, treats everyone with respect, and applies the law with integrity. Gunter’s campaign claims that during her first term, the 241st District Court has decided over 4,200 criminal and civil cases. Gunter practiced law at Tyler’s Findlay Craft, P.C. prior to becoming a judge.
