LONGVIEW – Suspect arrested for aggravated sexual assault of a childOn Thursday, November 6, 2025, at approximately 5:00 pm, Smith County Deputies received a report of a sexual offense involving a child. Smith County CAC Investigators were immediately notified of the case and began their investigation. The child (victim) and mother were interviewed, which ultimately resulted in identifying the suspect as Kayvionta Patterson – 25 of Longview. After establishing probable cause, Smith County Investigators prepared an arrest affidavit and presented it to the Honorable 114th State District Judge Reeve Jackson. After reviewing the affidavit, Judge Jackson issued a warrant of arrest for the criminal offense of Aggravated Sexual assault of a Child with a bond set at $750,000.

On Saturday, November 8, 2025, Smith County Deputies received information that Patterson was likely in the Hallsville or Longview, Texas area with plans to flee the State. Deputies coordinated with the Longview Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol in an attempt to locate Patterson before he was able to flee. Despite these efforts and being close several times, Patterson evaded law enforcement. Smith County Deputies contacted DPS Communications who provided an analyst level work up on Patterson.
Early Sunday morning, data indicated that Patterson was traveling toward California. Equipped with this information, a Smith County Deputy contacted the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) and the Banning Police Department in California. He was able to provide Patterson’s information and possible locations he might be headed. The Banning Police Department located Patterson’s vehicle at one of the given locations and a perimeter was quickly established. Our Deputy contacted the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Task Force to inform them the suspect’s vehicle had been located in Banning. Our Deputy then connected RCSO with Officers from the Banning Police Department. Shortly thereafter, RCSO secured a residential search warrant on the location. The search warrant was executed, and Patterson was quickly taken into custody with no injuries reported.
The Smith County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank the Texas Department of Public Safety, Longview Police Department, Riverside County California Sheriff’s Office, and the Banning California Police Department for their efforts in assisting in the apprehension of this fugitive.
