EAST TEXAS — The East Texas wildfires killed 30,000 acres of trees, but many of those are being converted to commercial timber. Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples says about one-third of those killed by the wildfires are now being harvested. According to Staples, “That translates into about 12 million cubic feet of timber that can be salvaged. That’s enough timber to build about 7,000 average-sized homes.” About $110 million worth of consumer goods will be made with that lumber.
