Police Offer Tips on Battling Cybercrime

LONGVIEW — There are cybercrimes happening right here in East Texas, and kids are often victims of harassment and obscenity. But according to KETK, there are ways parents can protect their kids. Longview police detective Kevin Brownlee says make sure you know what your child is doing with that smartphone. He says parents can buy software devices that track their children’s whereabouts online. According to Brownlee, parents should also tell their kids to turn an application off if someone starts using it inappropriately. Another good idea Brownlee offers is to have different passwords for your e-mail, Facebook, and phone. He says that way, if someone should hack into one of your accounts, that won’t mean the hacker has access to all of them.
