Rusk County District Attorney speaks after Milam executionHUNTSVILLE – According to our news partner KETK, Rusk County District Attorney Michael Jimerson spoke at a press conference in Huntsville on Thursday after the execution of convicted murderer Blaine Milam.

Milam and his girlfriend Jesseca Carson were arrested in 2008 after Carson’s 13-month-old daughter Amora was found dead inside their home. Milam and Carson beat Amora with a hammer and bit, strangled and mutilated her body over a 30-hour period, according to prosecutors.

Milam was put to death in Huntsville at 6:40 p.m. on Thursday. His last meal included a cheeseburger, oven-fried potatoes, green beans, pinto beans, sliced bread, scrambled eggs, country gravy, a sausage patty, pears, biscuits, tea and water.

Jimerson shared his own statement about Milam’s execution at a press conference outside of the Walls Unit, where Milam was executed, in Huntsville. He thanked all the prosecutors who helped convict Milam, along with Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton before reading his prepared statement.

“17 years ago, a convicted sex offender who was on paper incarcerated excluded himself from humanity by obtaining gratification from hours, torturing a baby, and more. An army of lawyers trumpeting his calls has come full circle, asserting the strategies originally rejected at trial a decade and a half ago,” Jimerson said. “Meanwhile, Amora’s unspoken plea for justice has reached a crescendo that endless appeals no longer silence. People minimize evil by attributing it to anything except the individual. Hence, outlandish theories replace obvious motives. False media reports pervaded Amora’s case from the start. For example, there was never a hammer involved. Most likely, the sensational, headline grabbing exorcism story was a last ditch attempt to avoid criminal responsibility by the codefendant Carson.

Carson is currently serving a life sentence in prison without the possibility of parole. Jimerson concluded his statement by calling on people to stand against evil in the wake of Amora’s death.

“We will never know what tomorrow would have contributed to our world,” Jimerson said. “Her death calls us to steel ourselves, to look upon truth and to stand against the evil inherent among us. Answering the call for justice from the most helpless is the measure of a civilized people.”

Thursday’s full press conference can be seen in the video at the top of this article.
