Kilgore ISD shares new campus safety measuresKILGORE — Kilgore ISD released a statement on Friday about their review of campus safety/bullying measures following an incident that sparked outrage among parents and the community.

Last week, a Kilgore Middle School student suffered a six-inch skull fracture after another student picked him up and slammed him headfirst into a steel chair. Dallas surgeons had to cut two holes into the student’s skull to stop bleeding and relieve swelling in the brain.

According to our news partner KETK, a school board meeting was held on Monday and several community members expressed their criticism of the district’s policies.

“Kilgore ISD is minimizing it and stating it has been blown out of proportion,” David Trussell, the victim’s uncle, said. “It has not been blown out of proportion. We want answers, and we want change.”

Kilgore ISD took to Facebook to outline the district’s new measures for communicating school safety.

“It is our goal to provide consistent, effective, and timely communication to keep our Bulldog parents and Kilgore community informed and engaged,” Kilgore ISD said in the statement.

Their new measures include email updates via ParentSqaure, a tool that allows people to anonymously report incidents and a monthly newsletter.

“We will continue to review campus safety measures, security protocols, and District programs to ensure the safety and well-being of every student and staff member,” the statement said.

More information about these tools can be found on the Kilgore ISD website.
