LONGVIEW – The City of Longview is asking drivers to use caution as new seal coats will be applied to road surfaces across the city starting on Tuesday, according to a report from our news partner KETK.
The city said brief lane closures are expected throughout this process, but the closures should last about five minutes. Flyers will be given to residents who are directly affected to explain the estimated timeframe of operations.
The City of Longview is executing what they are calling ‘Chip Seal Operations,’ which are expected to last around four to five days. Chip seal refers to an inexpensive seal coat that is spread along roads to protect against the forces of traffic.
“A seal coat is a surface treatment where a sticky, black, semi-solid liquid, known as a bituminous surface or asphalt binder, is applied to an existing roadway,” The City of Longview said. “The asphalt binder is then covered with a layer of loose gravel, or aggregate. Over time as vehicles drive on the seal-coated road surface, the loose gravel is pushed into the asphalt binder creating the desired surface texture.

Clark Construction of Texas, Incorporated of Victoria, Texas, is constructing this project.
