UPDATE: PALESTINE – According to the Palestine Police Department and our news partner KETK, Xavier Terrell Ealy was taken into custody without incident Tuesday night.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Palestine Police Department is currently searching for a man wanted in connection to the shooting of a 53-year-old on Monday, according to our news partner KETK.
Palestine officers were sent to an emergency room at around 7 p.m. on Monday in response to a report of a 53-year-old man had come in with gunshot wounds.
The man had been brought in by a private vehicle, and the officers were able speak with a witness and the shooting victim. Palestine PD said the witness told officers the victim was standing in a yard in the 400 block of South Jackson Street when Xavier Terrell Ealy, 43 of Palestine, drove up in a black Nissan passenger car. The witnesses reported that there was an exchange of words before Ealy shot the victim multiple times, Palestine PD said in a press release. Ealy fled the scene and detectives then obtained a warrant for his arrest on the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
While searching for Ealy near Neches, Palestine PD said detectives saw a Nissan registered to Ealy heading north on Highway 79. It then entered into Cherokee County and drove onto County Road 3222, where detectives found the Nissan stuck in the woods.
Palestine Police said their Emergency Response Team was deployed to search for Ealy near the vehicle with tracking dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s K9 unit but they could not find him. According to a press release, the victim is currently in serious condition.
Ealy is considered armed and dangerous by Palestine PD. Officials said anyone with information about Ealy’s location should call the Palestine Police Department at 903-729-2254 or the Anderson County Crimestoppers at 903-729-8477.
