NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KETK) — On March 7th, Stephen F. Austin hired Texas Tech assistant coach Matt Braeuer as the program’s 13th head coach, and on Thursday, they introduced him in Nacogdoches.

Braeuer, who spent the past two seasons in Lubbock, was an assistant at North Texas the previous five years, and has also made stops at Maryland, College of Charleston, and Sam Houston, but this will be his first time as a head coach.

He is a Belton, Texas native. He played college basketball at Wichita State and was a three-year starting point guard for the Shockers.

In his introductory conference, Brauer said he saw firsthand what SFA basketball looks like when it’s at its peak during his time with Sam Houston back in 2016.

He wasn’t going to leave Texas Tech for just any job, but he knows the potential for Lumberjack basketball and brings high expectations for himself and this program to East Texas.

SFA has not been to the NCAA Tournament since 2018, and Braeuer made it clear he plans on competing for and winning Southland Conference titles, and getting the Lumberjacks back on the big stage.
