Posted/updated on: October 21, 2011 at 10:43 amTYLER — The Tyler Fire Department responded to two separate fires overnight. The first incident was reported around 9:40 Wednesday evening at 1514 N. Dargan. Firemen say the fire was nearly out when they got there because of the resident’s quick action to evacuate the family and fight the fire. The kitchen was heavily damaged but there were no injuries. Investigators say the fire started in the kitchen due to cooking on the stove left unattended.
Then, around 1:30 Thursday morning at 313 N. Fuller Avenue, another structure fire was reported. Authorities say that structure was completely engulfed in flames upon their arrival. The cause of that fire is still under investigation. Residents say the fire started in the living room. One occupant suffered burns and severe smoke inhalation and was taken to ETMC for treatment. He was later flown to a Dallas hospital. Officials say the structure appears to have been totally destroyed.
