Woman sentenced for drunk driving that killed daughter
Posted/updated on: July 17, 2024 at 8:28 amTYLER â A Tyler woman has been sentenced to prison for driving while under the influence causing her 9-year-old daughterâs death. According to our news partner KETK, Krystle Medeiros, 38 of Tyler, was sentenced to 40 years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to murder and two counts of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury. Medeirosâ daughter succumbed to her injuries the following day.
According to an arrest warrant, on Jan. 4 a red Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV âwas driving on the wrong side of the roadwayâ causing a head-on crash on SH 64. Both occupants of the Trailblazer, Medeiros and her daughter, were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The warrant states during an inspection of Medeiros vehicle, officials noted âa strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.â Hospital staff later told troopers that Medeiros âinformed them that she had been drinking.â
A subpoena for Medeiros medical records was obtained, and her blood alcohol content reportedly was 0.35, the legal limit in Texas is 0.08.
