Hughes praises anti-defunding bill

AUSTIN (FOX) — Texas’s House of Representatives votes to pass a bill that would punish large cities that defund their police forces. Republican East Texas state Senator Bryan Hughes praises the bill, arguing that citizens in Texas support law enforcement and know the dangers of defunding police. Hughes discussed what happened to one city that attempted it on “Fox and Friends.” He says, “The city of Austin voted to cut its police budget by about 1/3…and what’s happened? A spike in violent crime. Murders are up — the highest spike in 20 years. We know this doesn’t work.” Critics of the bill say it robs cities of the right to make their own financial decisions.
