HENDERSON — Police in Henderson are investigating a Homicide. It was reported around 5:00 Sunday on Wilson Street. According to the department’s Facebook page, officers responding to a shots fired call found the body of Sabrien Walton, 45. An arrest warrant was issued for Gary Jordan Jr. , 29. Officers said he is considered armed and dangerous. Jordan was driving a tan 1998 Chevy S-10 single cab pickup with Texas License Plate MTZ5120. TYLER — Tyler ISD says schools will begin lessons online Monday through virtual learning. According to our news partner KETK, students and teachers will work through a portal with a grade-specific curriculum. TISD Superintendent Dr. Marty Crawford said he and district educators understand that “this is not a sprint.†He said the pace of learning will change under this new system, but that the district is doing what it can to keep education at the forefront. KILGORE — The city of Kilgore has issued a shelter in place order. While Gregg County issued a shelter in place on Wednesday, March 25, parts of Kilgore fall out of the jurisdiction. That prompted Kilgore Mayor Ronnie Spradlin to issue his own executive order of shelter in place for residents. The order went into effect Thursday, March 26 at 11:59 p.m. and ends on April 9. TYLER — Due to the coronavirus, many non-essential businesses have been shut down. This has caused companies to reduce employees’ hours and lay off workers. According to our news partner KETK, to help with unemployment, Workforce Solutions in Tyler is helping. The organization helps people apply for benefits and helps laid-off workers find new jobs. The office is closed to the public, but you can call (903) 561-8131 or visit their website. With unemployment reaching an all-time high, they are receiving a large number of calls. “We’ve had over 500 calls in a day,†said manager Stephen Lynch. East Texas workers dealing with job losses are adjusting to their new challenges. Workforce Solutions say the best way to apply for benefits is online. If you make a call to the call center, remember to be patient and persistent.
SMITH COUNTY — The City of Hideaway has issued a shelter in place order for residents after a confirmed case of coronavirus. According to our news partner KETK, the order was issued on Wednesday by Mayor Ray Hutcheson and will limit activities within the city over the next seven days until April 1. WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is seeking $3 billion from Congress to top up the country’s strategic petroleum reserves, potentially propping up U.S. oil producers after crude prices crashed globally. Energy Secretary Dan Brouillette denied Thursday the move was about propping up prices for U.S. oil giants. Brouillette says it makes sense to fill up the national petroleum supplies at a time of cheap oil. Oil producers Russia and Saudi Arabia have stepped up pumping, threatening the market share of U.S. oil. Congress has to approve the money for the purchases. The administration must overcome opposition from some Democratic lawmakers.
TYLER — Tyler Junior College announced that all in-person classes are subject to resume on Monday, March 30. Students are asked to not return to on-site classes until Monday, March 30. In the meantime, limited online instruction will continue this week, and all existing online instruction will begin again on March 23. Students living on-campus in residence halls will be able to return on Sunday, March 29. Employees who are able to work remotely, in coordination with their respective supervisors, may remain at home until March 30 to maximize social distance, but are not restricted from working on-site, provided they are healthy, symptom-free and have not been exposed to anyone who is ill.
TYLER — TJC President Dr. Juan E. Mejia has issued a memo to all employees of the College asking that they stay home Monday and Tuesday (March 16 and 17), in light of recent developments in the coronavirus crisis. During that time, the President’s Cabinet will meet to determine strategies to lead the institution. Mejia said, “I ask that all of us remain proactive, vigilant, and solution driven, and that we comply with the guidelines and directions from credible sources such as NET Health.†Employees will receive instructions by Tuesday evening regarding steps going forward. Students will observe an extended Spring Break and are set to return to classes on March 23.

EAST TEXAS — Grocery stores around the East Texas area have announced a reduction in hours to allow time for cleaning and restocking. Brookshire’s Grocery Company released the following statement, “In order to better serve our guests, Brookshire Grocery Company family of stores will be temporarily modifying store hours effective Saturday, March 14th to allow our partners to continue preventive sanitation and restock shelves. Our temporary hours will be 7am-9pm, and we will work to return to normal business hours as soon as possible. EAST TEXAS — SWEPCO is temporarily suspending all disconnections for non-payment as the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread throughout communities. According to their Facebook page : “We know our customers are concerned about their families and ensuring they have reliable electric service allows them to focus on staying healthy and well. We are committed to doing what we can to help our customers, our employees, and the communities we serve navigate this uncertain time.”
LONGVIEW — Longview ISD has extended Spring Break due to coronavirus concerns. According to the LISD webpage, officials announced that after talking with district administration and TEA officials, they are going to extend Spring Break by two weeks. TYLER — Tyler State Park was closed early Friday, March 13 out of an abundance of caution after receiving information about a potentially ill person in the park. LONGVIEW — The City of Longview has chosen to cancel several upcoming City-hosted events due to the threat of Coronavirus (COVID-19). These cancellations will affect events expected to draw large crowds through the end of March. This decision does not impact events hosted by other organizations. City of Longview officials and public safety personnel will continue to monitor the situation closely. “This is not a decision we made lightly, and our goal by taking these actions is to limit the impact of this disease on our community and protect those most vulnerable,†Mayor Andy Mack said in a news release. GREGG COUNTY — Those planning to visit Texas inmates in any of the counties where coronavirus has been reported will have to fill out a questionnaire regarding travel history and possible contact with anyone who may have COVID-19. They are asking all staff to limit any unnecessary domestic travel. If an employee feels ill, they’re being told to stay home. Employees who feel sick at work in a county where the virus has been confirmed will be sent home and required to submit a doctor’s note saying they are clear of COVID-19 before they can come back. The TDCJ is asking all staff to limit unnecessary travel. There have been cases reported in Smith, Gregg, Collin, Dallas, Fort Bend, Harris, Montgomery and Tarrant Counties.
KILGORE — Kilgore Police have arrested three suspects on terroristic threat charges following a bogus bomb threat. According to KPD’s Facebook page, officers responded to Walmart around 5:45 Wednesday evening on a theft report. While at the store, officers were alerted to a suspicious backpack inside the store with a note that read, “bomb inside.” Employees and customers were evacuated while officers conducted an investigation. The backpack contained several stuffed animals. Police said the backpack was placed in the store as a social media prank. Three unnamed suspects were taken into custody for terroristic threat.
VAN ZANDT COUNTY — The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a wanted fugitive. According to our news partner KETK, Jacob Howell was involved in a disturbance at a residence involving a weapon Tuesday night. Howell left the scene and returned to Fruitvale in a stolen vehicle where he was confronted by law enforcement. Officials tried to stop Howell but he escaped and led them on a short pursuit. Authorities say, Howell dumped the vehicle in a wooded area and fled on foot. Howell was considered armed and dangerous before his capture on Wednesday afternoon.
TYLER — Tyler Police are searching for a gunman involved in a fatal shooting Tuesday night. On Wednesday Andy Erbaugh told KTBB, “it is the result of a drug deal gone bad. It happened around 11:30 at The Foundry Apartments on Varsity Drive.” Responding officers found two gunshot victims. One victim, Armani Jewel Fields, 20 of Lufkin died at the scene. SMITH COUNTY — A Tyler man accused in a fatal shooting at Westwood Shopping Center in 2018 made his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon. According to our news partner KETK, District Attorney Jacob Putman asked for a delay in the case to allow for further DNA testing. Kristian Perdomo, 26, has been charged with the murder of Bradley Brockman, 45, after a shooting at the shopping center at Loop 323 and Chandler Highway. Investigators believed that Perdomo was connected to four other shootings that had occurred over the previous two weeks. Perdomo has only been charged with Brockman’s murder. TYLER — A Tyler man pleaded guilty Wednesday to two charges of intoxicated manslaughter stemming from a wreck in January 2019. According to our news partner KETK, Tommy Allen was driving on south Broadway Avenue when he struck Michael Gonzalez, 26, who was waiting at the Amherst Street red light on his motorcycle. Gonzalez later died from his injuries at a local emergency room. Allen’s wife, Susan, was a passenger in the truck. She died two days after the crash. Allen was sentenced to 12 years for each death. The sentences will run concurrently. According to an arrest warrant, Allen had numerous drugs, including Hydrocodone, Xanax and cocaine, in his system.
TYLER — A body found in Tyler Wednesday morning has been identified as Jimmy Lee Ball, 63. His body was discovered around 7:00 in a parking lot on Broadway. Investigators said foul play was not suspected. The body was sent for autopsy.
TYLER — A Tyler man has been arrested following a weekend stabbing that left the victim in critical condition. According to our news partner KETK, the altercation happened around 10 p.m. Saturday at an apartment building on Kennedy Avenue. The suspect, identified as Cleggan Ware, reportedly stabbed the victim in the chest. The unidentified victim is in critical condition in a Tyler hospital. Ware, 38, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is in the Smith County Jail on a bond of $75,000.
CONROE — A woman in the Houston area with a criminal history in East Texas heads to prison after what happened while she was driving. Kassandra Nesbitt faces 20 years in prison for intoxication assault. Montgomery County prosecutor Andrew James says Nesbitt crashed in front of an oncoming car on April 13, 2019. The driver of that car, Debra Ringo, and her granddaughter suffered life-altering injuries. According to James, “The investigators from our Department of Public safety determined that Ms. Nesbitt was intoxicated. A sample of her blood shows she was nearly double the legal limit about an hour and 15 minutes after the crash.” He says Nesbitt claimed she wasn’t drinking but there was an open beer in her car. Nesbitt was already on parole for an aggravated robbery in 2003 in Longview.
GREGG COUNTY — The Gregg County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an assault at a club that left one person dead and another in custody on a charge of murder. According to our news partner KETK, the incident happened just before 3:00 a.m. Sunday at Jaguars on Estes Parkway. Deputies responded to an assault call and found one injured victim, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Dustin Michael Page, 34, of Gilmer, was arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the Gregg County Jail with a bond of $100,000.
SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — Wyoming authorities say a Texas man suspected of drunken driving is dead after jumping out of his speeding vehicle while being chased by a state trooper. The Wyoming Highway Patrol says 43-year-old Marshall Acker of Tyler climbed out of his vehicle through his sunroof during Friday’s chase and jumped onto Interstate 90 near Sheridan as his vehicle traveled at around 80 mph. The approximately 5-mile pursuit started after troopers were notified of a suspected drunken driver. Acker was initially spotted driving at 97 mph in a 75 mph zone and failed to stop for a trooper who turned on his emergency lights and sirens.
SMITH COUNTY — A Troup woman has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $200,000 from a children’s nonprofit over a period of three years. Toni Marie Rambo, 54, was the Director of Quality Control at Azleway Children’s Service and oversaw weekly cash allowances to children who lived there. The children would receive a certain amount of money for good behavior and for performing jobs. The Azleway staff would provide Rambo with allowance sheets detailing what each child had earned. SMITH COUNTY — Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman will seek the death penalty for William Davis, the nurse accused of murdering patients at CHRISTUS Owen Heart Hospital. According to our news partner KETK, the next hearing is scheduled for April 24th in the 114th District Courtroom. LONGVIEW — One man is dead after a shooting in Longview early Monday morning. Longview Police were called to a shots fired report around 12:45 on Finch Drive. The victim, identified as Damian Devon Daniels, 26, of Gladewater, was found with a gunshot wound. He died a short time later at a Longview hospital. Officials are investigating the shooting as a domestic incident. Additional details were not available.
PALESTINE — Palestine Police have arrested a suspect responsible for the robbery and shooting of a Lufkin man early Sunday morning. According to our news partner KETK, Palestine Police were called just after 1:00 a.m. Sunday to Coronaca Street for a reported suicidal man. Police said the resident’s grandson had dropped off Marquise Wade, 21, of Palestine, who retrieved a handgun and left on foot. The resident said she heard a gunshot not long after.
