The wind at his back.

Here is the state of the race this morning.

With the Republican National Convention set to kick off next week in Milwaukee the Trump campaign has the wind at its back. Polling data is beginning to come in that takes into account President Biden’s disastrous debate performance two weeks ago and the news is all good for Donald Trump.

Trump now leads in all seven of the battleground states of Arizona, Nevada, Georgia, North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. In all but Michigan and Wisconsin, Trump’s polling lead is well above the margin of error. A look at the Electoral Map considering current polling data shows President Biden needing to take those two states plus Pennsylvania to win the election. In Pennsylvania, Trump’s lead has expanded to plus 5.3, up from a statistical tie just a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, the Democrats are still wrestling with their options regarding replacing Joe Biden. The party is divided on that subject. However, the movement among Congressional Democrats to replace Biden on the ticket appears to be losing steam. Biden for his part is adamant that he is staying in the race, and absent his voluntary withdrawal, the Democrats’ options are severely limited.

On the GOP side of the race, Donald Trump is showing uncharacteristic discipline and restraint. Here’s FOX News Radio’s Grady Trimble:

Former president Trump has largely stayed out of the way as the Democrats fight amongst themselves, but that changes with that big rally. Our colleagues with Fox News Digital report that Trump is going to make the case that the Biden campaign and the Democratic Party at large have sort of engaged in a cover up to try to hide President Biden’s cognitive decline. As part of President Trump coming back out into the public eye after the debate, he had an interview on Hannity. He did attack President Biden, who he predicts will stay in the race. But Trump and the GOP are clearly focused on policy, while Democrats try to sort out who their candidate is.”

The White House has come under fire in the wake of the debate. Here’s FOX’s Bill Melugin:

The White House is still trying to clean up concerns about President Biden’s cognitive decline and Karine Jean-Pierre also clarified why a neurological specialist with an expertise in Parkinson’s had come to the White House multiple times. She says it was just to give Biden his annual physicals. And Karine Jean-Pierre went on to say Biden is more determined than ever to run for president. And she also added that top Democrats in the Congressional Black Caucus have all come out in support of him as calls for him to step aside, continue.”

Karine Jean-Pierre didn’t explain why a Parkinson’s specialist would perform a routine physical nor did she explain why, if it was an annual physical, that a Parkinson’s specialist was at the White House eight times in the last eight months.
