Not quite unified yet.

Shortly after gaveling the Republican National Convention to order in Cleveland Monday afternoon, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus was dispensing with some parliamentary and procedural matters. One such matter was to name a “temporary chairman” for the convention.

On his own motion Priebus nominated Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to be temporary chair and called for a voice vote.

On this recording, the “ayes” and the “nays” sound roughly equal in volume.

In person inside the hall, it sounded to many — me included — like the “nays” carried the vote.

There were some scattered ‘boos’ following the vote that elicited a somewhat sheepish response from Priebus.

A subtle sign that all is not unified quite yet in the GOP.
