Tyler Names New City Manager

edwardbroussardTYLER — After executive session Tuesday, the Tyler City Council approved a contract for Edward Broussard to be Tyler’s next city manager effective Feb. 9, 2015. Broussard most recently served as the city manager of Missouri City. “The entire City Council has been extremely involved in the decision,” said Mayor Martin Heines. “We feel confident that we have hired the candidate to meet the unique demands of managing the City of Tyler.” The contract approved by Council provides for an annual base salary of $190,000, as well as authorization for additional health benefits.

Broussard is a credentialed manager with the International City/County Management Association and has more than 19 years of local government experience. He worked as city manager of Hutto from 2005-2011 and Navasota from 2001-2005, also serving as assistant city manager of Woodway from 2000 to 2001. Broussard additionally worked as assistant to the city manager of College Station from 1997 to 2000 and as a management assistant for the Lubbock City-County Library from 1996 to 1997. He served as an administrative intern for the City of Lubbock Human Resources Department from 1995 to 1996. Broussard holds a Masters of Public Administration from Texas Tech University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Texas A&M University.

“I am delighted for Mr. Broussard on his appointment as Tyler City Manager,” said Heines. “I look forward to working with him as we continue to our quest to be the standard for performance excellence in local government.”

Broussard counts among his achievements working with citizens, city council, and city staff on such issues as strategic planning, mixed-use development, other economic development projects, new facilities, neighborhood integrity, beautification improvements, capital projects, and land-use planning. He is active in state and international city management associations. He was Region 7 president in 2007 for the Texas City Management Association, served on that organization’s board of directors from 2009-2011, and was named TCMA’s 2011 Administrator of the Year. Broussard also is a credentialed manager with the International City/County Management Association.

Strategic Government Resources (SGR) conducted and managed the employment search. According to a city news release, SGR is an executive search firm based in Keller, specializing in recruiting, assessing, and developing innovative, collaborative, and authentic leaders for local governments. The recruitment began in September following the departure of then-City Manager Mark McDaniel, who accepted a position with the city of Dallas. Susan Guthrie has been filling the role of interim city manager until a replacement could be hired.
