Posted/updated on: February 13, 2014 at 1:56 pm

thumb_tjc-signTYLER — At a meeting this morning at the college, Tyler Junior College and Texas Woman’s University announce a dual enrollment program that will allow students to pursue a bachelor’s degree and an associate’s degree simultaneously, without leaving Tyler. The agreement will allow dental hygiene students to pursue an Associate in Applied Science and a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene simultaneously, said Carrie Hobbs, TJC department chair and professor of dental hygiene. The agreement will become effective for fall 2014 enrollment.

Hobbs said the dental hygiene profession is “moving toward a more professional model with higher educational expectations for critical thinking and decision-making abilities. These valued learning outcomes provide a solid base for careers in leadership, service, and education in an ever-evolving oral healthcare system.” A bachelor’s degree will assist graduates in advancing in their chosen career field, she said. Courses through Texas Woman’s University will be delivered on site at TJC and online.
